What do you mean save more energy? Did you mean save more fuel?
Nope. It didn’t save more fuel. Boxer has a bigger bore (diameter) piston than normal inline engine and V engine. If bigger bore that means shorter stroke. If is a short stroke that means the boxer engine easily complete one combustion or one turn at the crankshaft. The crankshaft turn faster means more fuel hungry.
Imagine Formula one engine V10, had about only 2 inches of stroke.
Actually V and Boxer engine are quite similar design, the difference is the angle of the engine, V is about 60 deg and boxer is about 180 deg. Both has shorter crankshaft. That’s no way to compare here cos of normally V6 has 6 piston and boxer only has 4.
How to compare?
