networking 是什么东东？
Networking is many knowledge inside, like LAN, WAN,
networking basically means the knowledge to link a group of computers to form a computer network. inside networking, you will learn the basics of how the computers communicating to each others (i.e. how to use the protocols specified in OSI; types of ICMP, IGMP and what are the uses), types of network (i.e. LAN, WAN, VPN), how you direct the packets from the source to the destination (i.e. routing, IP addressing via named or DHCP), the security of networking (i.e. firewall). you will also learn the advances of the networking technologies, such as WI-FI, WIMAX that constitute WLAN; salelite networks etc. you also learn the functions of various hardware (i.e. router, switch, hardware firewall)
it’s a very interesting subject, with many many topics. as for the prospects, like other ICT fields, you must be very persistent in the learning process to upgrade yourself consistantly, in order to to get a job with a good pay;
some places to get good certifications for networking is CISCO (http://www.cisco.com) and Juniper (http://www.juniper.net/)
